Nigerian Rap Star Nominated For Upcoming Grammy Awards

  • Ralph Victor Folarin, better known by his stage name Wale, is a Nigerian-American rapper from Washington, D.C. Wale was born to Nigerian parents. He rose to prominence in 2006, when his song "Dig Dug" became popular in his hometown.

    Full name, Olubowale Victor Akintimehin is living the American dream. The rapper rode into the American top 10 music charts in 2006 with the song, Dig Dug (Shake It).

    Akintehinmiwa is the cousin of Hollywood actor Gbenga Akinnagbe. He was the first mainstream Washington-based artiste to officially crash hulkshare in 20 years. His rap song Breakdown was featured on the video game, Madden NFL 2009.

    With regional hits and mixtape albums to his credit, he was signed on to Rick Ross music group and soon after, to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for management.

    Wale recorded his maiden album in Atlanta, Georgia. It features the first smash hit single, Lotus Flower Bomb. He has been nominated for the Soul Train Music Awards, MTV U Woodie Award, BET Hip Hop Awards, which he won early in 2012 for the Best Collaboration title.

     The rapper’s style has been described as sharp, witty, and on point by the hip hop family. Little wonder Lotus Flower Bomb, featuring Miguel, was nominated for the Grammy Award in the Best Rap Song category.
