Lending credence to recent revelations that the IRS is unfairly targeting Americans by asking them to pay their taxes, rapper Fat Joe has been sentenced to four months in federal prison after failing to do just that.
American rapper, CEO of Terror Squad Entertainment, and member of musical groups D.I.T.C. and Terror Squad.
Fat Joe, real name Joseph Antonio Cartagena 42, pled guilty in December to ignoring some $700,000 in taxes on earnings of $3.3 million he owed between the years of 2007 to 2010—a move known as “doing the rockaway,” or “tax evasion” in square government parlance.
His prosecution in New Jersey (where his Terror Squad Entertainment is based) follows those of Mary J. Blige and Lauryn Hill in the same state, and confirms all musicians should probably avoid.
New Jersey if they like making money and not giving it to anyone else. New Jersey’s got a real thing about that.
He was sentenced on Monday
When he will begin serving his sentence was not reported.
